Week Two- Post Three: Meta-Data

Meta-Data

Meta-data is basically information about pictures
This could include the date the picture was taken, who took the picture, where the picture was taken, or the usage rights. You can save custom made tablets.
Through photoshop we are able to save our pictures using meta-data. This helps us because we are able to save a single picture or a group of pictures using an already saved meta-data tablet. Without using meta-data we would have to go into each picture and save the basic overall information.  This is extremely time consuming. While using meta-data information about pictures can be save in seconds.
This is important to me because I would rather spend my time at the shelter cuddling, taking pictures of the animals or at home editing the photos than organizing photos and manually imputing the information into each photo. I have never heard of meta-data before but already it has saved me a ton of time.

Mahogony

Animal ID: 71133

Picture taken May 16, 2012

This is Mahogony a very sweet cat at the Wake County Animal Shelter. The feature I used on my camera that I had not used before this class was the ISO. Before this class I did not know what the ISO was used for.
The shelter has poor lighting and I typically set the ISO at 800. When I was taking pictures of Mahogony I realized I needed to increase the ISO because he was in the cubby and my body was blocking the majority of light. I set the ISO at 1600 and got this shot.

  1. This is a great picture! I love the lighting, and Mahogony's expression is very bold. I love how you can see the shadows a little bit (and it is not distracting) around the cat in the box. Great Work!

    1. Thanks Sara-Anne, I think this is one of my favorite picture so far because I like the way the lines in the box lead the viewers eyes right to Mahogony!

  2. I agree with Sara-Anne! This is a great shot of Mahogony and the lighting is wonderful! It was awesome that you changed the ISO and captured this picture. I know that some cats like to hide in the back of the cubby and that makes them appear fearful; however, Mahogony looks as though this cat is saying, "Adopt me, I'm ready!" You really captured a "picture perfect" moment!

    1. Thank you! Mahogony was is a very friendly cat and made it easy for me to capture his charm! I was glad I learned about the ISO because my first picture with a lower ISO was too dark.

  3. Mahogony looks so cute in this picture! I tried to photograph him the other day and had the hardest time getting him to be still so I could take a picture of him. You did such a good job getting him to stay still and capturing his cuteness. I also think you used the vignette very well it really helps you focus on him. You were very successful using the other techniques as well, like brightening his eyes up and making is a clearer and brighter image. Keep up the good work!

    1. Oh don't worry Kayley I was with Mahogony for a while before he would sit still and let me get this shot! Surprisingly I chose not to use a vignette in this picture! I thought the shadows and the lines were enough to direct the viewers eyes toward Mahogony!

  4. I just want to explain a little better about metadata. Metadata is information that is embedded in the image. We don't see it, but it is information about the file. You can customize it to include your name, date the photo was taken, or in the case of this class—breed of animal, color, date at the shelter, size, etc. This way when you sort through your photos, you can do searches by keywords, and it will sort through your photos. Pretty cool, huh?
